BENGUERRA NEWS

July 2008

The first half of the year has slipped by quickly. It is now winter in Moçambique, but still an excellent time to visit. The weather on Benguerra Island is very pleasant and guests can look forward to warm sunny days with temperatures ranging between 25 & 30ºC, and hardly any rain.

The lodge was busy in May, with many pre- & post Indaba visitors, who were treated to our unique blend of Benguerra hospitality. The personal atmosphere of the lodge, combined with the warm friendly staff and great location was what impressed most. The spacious Casitas and being spoilt by your own personal butler was also considered a special treat.

On one Sunday during these visits it was soccer time on the island – Benguerra Lodge versus the Local Island team. We joined other spectators to support our players, and in between the adult action, the children had their own little match imitating the adults, to great pleasure of the crowd.

Graham Pollard, one of our resident fly fishing guides, caught his first Sailfish of the season in June – the picture of the proud fisherman is herewith. The catch and release of all species is encouraged at Benguerra Lodge and Sailfish is one of the species also tagged for research purposes.
Come, take a walk around the lodge:

The photographers from Virtual Tours visited the lodge at the beginning of May to update our Virtual 360° tour on the website. All the new spins are now live on www.benguerra.co.za Please log on and have a look. The tours are an excellent tool if you would like to quickly show your prospective guests what the lodge looks like. If you are interested in linking the virtual tour to your own website, please let us know and we will gladly arrange it.
CFA Air Charters are now operating the Island transfers:

Benguerra Lodge has contracted CFA to do all the air transfers between Vilanculos and Benguerra Island. The cost of the air transfer is USD 160,- per person return. This fare excludes the USD 10,- per person domestic departure tax which is payable directly at Vilanculos airport.

Please note that this rate is current and is subject to change, due to fuel surcharges.

The transfer can only be booked through our reservations office.

We have taken great care to contact everyone whose bookings were affected with the change, but if you are still unclear on any aspect, or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Pelican Air Rates/ Vilanculos Airport tax:

We have been advised that with effect from 1 July 2008, the USD 30,- pp Mozambican International departure tax, which guests used to pay cash on departure from Vilanculos Airport, is now included in the airfares and payable directly to Pelican Air. We have contacted bookings made through us, but if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact either us or Pelican Air.

2009 Rates:
Please contact us for our 2009/ 2010 rates if you have not received it yet.

Regards Amanda
