Villa Chibuene (aka Private Villa)
The new Private Villa at Benguerra Lodge has been
completed and the first delighted guests stayed there in
the second week of August. Villa Chibuene is built on
the far western side of the main lodge and replaces our
existing private Villa. All private Villa bookings are
now accommodated in the new Villa.
The beautiful Villa
Chibuene is spacious and blends naturally into the
surrounding forest. It consists of a central main area
with open plan kitchen, dining room and comfortable
private lounge. Through wide sliding doors, guests walk
out onto the wooden deck, where hours can be whiled away
relaxing next to the swimming pool, or sipping
refreshing cold drinks under the thatched sala while
admiring the sea view.
The main area is flanked by two spacious en-suite
bedrooms, each with its own mosaic outside shower.
Similar to the Casita’s the rooms have large shutter
doors which leads to a private section of the deck. |

Welcome Christine:
We are pleased to welcome Christine Barnewall, who
joined us as Catering manager in August. Christine,
herself a qualified chef, comes with a wealth of
experience and her impressive resume includes working as
a chef at lodges such as Singita and Tswalu Kalahari
Reserve.
Christine firmly believes that all the senses should be
engaged to fully enjoy your meal. As a result she likes
to experiment with colours, textures and different taste
combinations. Food is as much a visual journey as it is
a taste experience. She is working closely with our
local chefs to expand their culinary horizons. |

Another day in the office:
Last Friday, I had the most amazing “day in the office”. It
started early in the morning when I joined some guests on their
snorkelling trip to 2 Mile reef. Snokelling is always a treat,
as you never know what you are going to see out there. Our
snorkelling guide makes the trip very interactive by pointing
out and naming all the magnificent creatures you encounter in
this underwater world. I was still excited about seeing a
beautifully coloured honeycomb moray eel (bright yellow with
black spots) and a very colourful little blue and red
nudibranchs (sea slug) and thought this trip could not get any
better, when all of a sudden it did... out of the blue a 5 meter
long whale shark appeared and gently swam past us!
After lunch, it was back to “the office”, this time I
accompanied Graham Pollard our expert fly fishing guide on a
fishing excursion. Graham made it look really easy by
effortlessly getting all the gear ready and then handed me my
fishing rod. After a couple of attempts I managed to catch my
first fish – a green spotted Kingfish. This time the camera was
ready... the fish was released back into the sea. The fly
fishing excursion was a lot of fun and very relaxing. You
definitely do not need to be experienced to enjoy it, but be
warned, once you have tried it you will be hooked! |
